The Brown Munthali Foundation (BMF) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in Malawi through education, environmental conservation, and community-driven development initiatives.
Founded by Brown Munthali, a visionary leader passionate about creating lasting positive change, BMF’s mission is to empower individuals by expanding access to quality education and promoting sustainable development practices. At the core of BMF’s work is a deep commitment to building brighter futures for the children of Malawi. We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and equipping future generations with the tools they need to succeed. Through various educational initiatives including the establishment of Hajimac Academy Primary School in the Chitimba community—BMF is working to make education both accessible and impactful, regardless of a child’s background.
BMF also plays a critical role in promoting environmental sustainability, recognizing the direct link between a healthy environment and community well-being. One of our flagship projects is the Tiny Forest Initiative, launched in collaboration with the High Five Club. This reforestation project involves planting small, biodiverse forests that provide shade, medicinal plants, fruits, and habitats for local wildlife. It also serves as an outdoor classroom where children learn the importance of environmental conservation and become active stewards of nature.
Beyond education and the environment, BMF responds to pressing community needs such as poverty alleviation, access to clean water, and food security. From our humble beginnings, we have grown through the generous support of individuals and organizations, both locally and globally.
Together with our partners, volunteers, and supporters, we are working toward a shared vision: a Malawi where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy and sustainable environment.
