In rural Malawi, quality education is often a distant dream. Children in Chitimba once faced long, dangerous walks to school or studied in a grass-roofed, open-sided classroom with no desks. Since 2012, the High Five Club and Brown Munthali Foundation have partnered to change this reality, culminating in the 2020 construction of Hajimac Academy Primary School—a testament to community-driven transformation.
Community members hand-molded 40,000 bricks, laying the foundation for change.
Locals gathered sand and stones, contributing to every step of the build.
The school rose brick by brick, a symbol of collective effort.
The Vision
The High Five Club and Brown Munthali Foundation shared a goal: to provide accessible education. Before Hajimac Academy, Chitimba’s children learned in harsh conditions with limited resources. The new school offers a safe, modern environment to inspire learning and growth.
Two classrooms now house 75 students, equipped with desks and blackboards.
A teacher’s office supports educators with essential resources.
A Sustainable Future
Hajimac Academy is built to last. With a business plan allowing affordable fees for some and free education for vulnerable children, plus a non-compulsory uniform policy, the school ensures inclusivity. A toilet block and teacher’s office complete the facility, fostering a holistic learning environment.
Students in Standards 1–4 and nursery thrive in a safe space.
The community’s pride shines through their ownership of the school.
The Impact
Today, Hajimac Academy serves 75 students, led by Brown Munthali and a team of dedicated teachers. The school fosters literacy, reduces educational barriers, and empowers children with hope. This community-owned project, supported by the High Five Club’s £9,052 contribution, is a beacon of transformation.
A legacy of education and empowerment for Chitimba’s future.
